How to Not Be Nervous at Your Senior Photoshoot

Photography

Coming from a family with sisters, I know the importance of an outstanding senior picture. These pictures get posted on social media, given to friends to be remembered as, and, of course, hung up in your home for everyone who comes over to see.

So I definitely understand being a little nervous with that kind of pressure and also thinking to yourself, “hopefully these will be good enough to replace that embarrassing baby picture…”

The key beforehand is to come prepared so you can feel confident. Once you get there, the photographer will surely make you feel at ease and your previous nerves will be taken care of.

Here are a few quick tips to help you prepare for your senior pictures to be taken.

1. Come with a couple poses in mind

This might be obvious to most but you would be surprised by the number of people who just wing it. Of course, the photographer will have a couple of ideas for poses to have but don’t be afraid to look around and find some poses that look good to you and that you want to try out. Here are more ideas for a pose for your pictures: https://www.shutterfly.com/ideas/senior-photo/.

2. Don’t be afraid to bring props

Many people will bring something from their sport or hobby that they did in school. This ranges from the soccer ball to the trumpet. If you were well known for wearing a certain hat that could be neat to see in a senior picture as well. You can even bring a piece of furniture such as a stool or light chair. The pictures are for you and showing off your high school experience so don’t hold back.

3. Plan several Outfits

When you plan your outfits, try not to bring clothing that has extra words or designs that would take away from your face and features. It’s important to keep the focus on you rather than what you are wearing. That being said, don’t be afraid to mix and match the type of clothing and the color.

4. Go easy on the jewelry and makeup

When wearing too much makeup or jewelry, it can start to take away from the focus of the picture which is you! Make yourself look natural and the photographer will take care of grabbing your best view. You want people to see how beautiful you are, not necessarily how great that necklace is.

5. Bring someone with you

Another person with you will help you with your confidence so you look as natural as possible. They can also be a person who will “double-check” your outfit and make sure your clothing or hair hasn’t come undone.

6. Make sure your hands are presentable

Not everyone will think about their hands when they are getting their picture taken, but hands can show up in the picture easily like anything else. Be sure to make them presentable such as trimmed nails.

7. Practice facial features

To get the most out of the photoshoot, be sure to take time to practice facial expressions in the mirror. There are many different looks to try from relaxed, serious, animated, or even action.

8. Relax and have fun

The cliche ending to any list is, of course, to have fun and relax. Relaxing isn’t essential but it will make your pictures look more natural. This photoshoot is about you and celebrating your senior year. Enjoy it!

Your cIt’s great to know that the photographer would already have poses in mind to suggest, but it would also be better if you have some ideas for yourself. I will follow your advice now that I am looking for senior photography packages for my grandfather who is turning 70 this year. So I plan to book a session for him to have great photos to display during the celebration, and it would help him feel comfortable if we practice some poses with him before hiring a photographer.omment..

Your commIt really helped when you said that one should focus on being themselves and not wear too much clothing with large prints when getting senior pictures. I will make sure that I will help my grandmother choose the outfits she will wear when we find a photographer to hire this month. It would be great to recreate the outfits she already wore when she was a teen or young adult, so it will be a perfect theme for the photos to be used on her 80th birthday.ent..
